b. If using copper or tin based anti‑fouling paints, avoid any
electrical interconnection between the Mercury Marine
Product, anodic blocks, and the paint by allowing a
minimum of 40 mm (1.5 in.) unpainted area on the
transom of the boat around these items.

IMPORTANT: Corrosion damage that results from the improper
application of anti‑fouling paint will not be covered by the limited
warranty.
NOTE: Do not paint anodes or the MerCathode system reference
electrode and anode, as this will render them ineffective as
galvanic corrosion inhibitors.

Painting Drive Unit or Transom Assembly
• Paint the drive unit and transom assembly with a good
quality marine paint or an anti‑fouling paint that does not
contain copper, tin, or any other material that could
conduct electrical current. Do not paint drain holes,
anodes, or items specified by the boat manufacturer.
3.
Additional Corrosion Prevention Tips
• Spray the power package components on the inside of the
boat every two to three weeks to protect the finish from
dulling and corrosion. External power package
components may also be sprayed.

• All lubrication points, especially the steering system and
shift and throttle linkages, should be kept well lubricated.
• Flush the cooling system after each use.
