38 Chapter 2: Getting started with your Matrox 4Sight GPm unit
Connecting to a PNP-compatible device
To connect Matrox 4Sight GPm outputs to a PNP-compatible device or PLC
input, each Matrox 4Sight GPm output signal requires a pull-up resistor, as shown
below.
The external pull-up resistor ensures that when the output is disabled (off ), the
external resistor will pull-up the line input to a positive voltage (+V). The
Matrox 4Sight GPm output is the inverse of the input signal. That is, when the
Matrox 4Sight GPm output signal is off, the input signal is “high”, and when the
output is on, the input signal is “low”.
A 3 K
Ω
is a minimum resistance value suggested to protect your
Matrox 4Sight GPm. Since your Matrox 4Sight GPm output connectors can sink
up to 100 mA, use the documentation for your PNP-compatible device to
calculate the required resistance for your external resistor pull-up (if necessary).
❖
Note that your PNP-compatible device and your Matrox 4Sight GPm unit must
share a common ground.
