1.6 Glossary of used terminology

MANUFACTURER
Natural or legal person who is responsible for the project, construction,
packaging or architecture and placing the machine on the market
USER Person intended for the use of the appliance
ASSISTANT Person destined to assist the user during the use of the device
SERVICE or
AUTHORIZED
PERSONNEL
Persons or entities responsible to the manufacturer who install, assemble,
maintain or repair the machine
INTENDED USE
The use of product, process or service in compliance with instruction and
specification supplied by manufacturer. Not to be confused with normal
use.
Both involve the concept of use in the manner foreseen by the
manufacturer, but the intended use focuses on the medical aspects, while
normal use concerns not only the medical aspect, but also maintenance,
service, transport, etc.
NORMAL USE Operation including periodic checks and user adjustments.
IMPROPER USE
REASONABLY
FORESEEBLE
Reasonably foreseeable usage errors that could cause danger to the user by
using the device outside from normal use
OPTIONAL
Additional part intended to be used, together with the device, for the
purpose of realizing the intended use, adapting it for a special use,
improving its performance or allowing integrating its functions with those
of another device.
RISK Probability of damage happening
DAMAGE
Physical injury or damage to the health of people, animals, property and / or
the environment.
DANGER A potential source of damage.
ORDINARY
MAINTENANCE Periodic operations for verifying correct operation (example: cleaning)
addressed to the user, assistant or manufacturer.
EXTRAORDINARY
MAINTENANCE
Operations necessary to prevent or remove faults that could compromise the
operation of the device. These operations are aimed at technical assistance
or authorized personnel of the manufacturer.
