Measurement error of reflow checker
We are carrying rigorous inspections on the reflow checkers at the time of factory shipment. However,
due to the reasons as listed below, temperature recording may become unsatisfactory. In such a case,
take the corrective measures as explained, for obtaining more reproducible measurement.
①
Welded portion at the tip of thermocouple
The thermocouple generates voltage depending on the temperature difference between the tip portion
where dissimilar metals are jointed and the root portion. The smaller the joint portion at the tip, the
faster the thermocouple response becomes. Soldering of a large round ball or twisted thermocouple
will not make a proper joint. This point should be taken into consideration when preparing
thermocouple.
②
Thermocouple mounting method
The thermocouple tip can be mounted in the following methods. The merits and demerits of each are
listed below.
Fixing method
Merit
Demerit
Taping (heat-resistant tape)
Simple and convenient
Peeling off during
measurement
※
Lead free solder
Reliable fixing to metal part
Thermal capacity increases,
and temperature lowers.
Thermosetting adhesive
Rigid fixing
Time-consuming fixing.
Small point is not measurable.
※
When fixing with high temperature solder, use the solder whose melting point is higher than the set
temperature of reflow oven.
※
In the case of high temperature solder, the flux for stainless steel is needed. Otherwise, use the
ordinary solder for preliminary soldering.
Do not use the following fixing methods for the reflow oven:
・
Aluminum tape
・
Masking tape
・
Cloth tape
・
2-fluid epoxy adhesive
・
Instant adhesive
