NOTE

:

The moment arm of the main water ballast tanks is a
conservative approximation - the moment arm changes
from 190 mm to 200 mm as the main tanks are filled.

CAUTION

: Various types of tail batteries are used. In Table 6.4.2-1a

a tail battery weighing 2.7 kg (5.95 lbs) is listed. Check the
tail battery weight and enter the correct weight for the
calculation.

To determine if a selected loading falls within the CG envelope, as
illustrated in Fig 6.3.0-2, the following procedure can be used:

1.

List all the loads in table format as illustrated in Table 6.3.0-1,
(Include the mass and CG arm of the empty aircraft as obtained in
the mass and balance report.)

2.

Calculate the moments for each load, using the formula:

Moment = Mass x Moment arm

3.

Add the mass of the applicable loads

4.

Add the moments of the applicable loads

5.

Plot the mass against the moment on the JS-MD 1C Envelope
diagram (Fig 6.3.0-2).

6.

The Flying CG can also be calculated using the formulate:

Flying CG position = (Total of Moments) / (Total Mass)
