Understanding power supplies
Understanding power supplies
The APX 1000 unit can be equipped with two hot-swappable ac or dc power supplies. One
power supply is sufficient to provide power to the unit. When an APX 1000 unit is equipped
with two power supplies, they share the power load of the unit equally and act as a redundant
backup for each other if one supply fails.
If -48Vdc backup power is available, a dc power supply can be used in the same chassis as an
ac power supply. If ac power is lost, the dc power supply can power the unit directly from the
backup -48Vdc source.
ac power supplies
Lucent supplies a U.S. standard power cord capable of operating at 240VAC at 8 AMPs. For
areas with different AC power outlets, you must use a local power cord that meets the
following requirements:
•
The equipment end of the cable must connect to the APX1000 unit's standard C14
interface
•
Must be rated 240 VAC at 8 AMPs
•
Meets local safety approvals (for example: CE, VDE, CSA, UL)
For additional requirements of and specifications for the ac power supply, see “Electrical
requirements” on page D-2. The ac power supply is shown in Figure 2-5.
!
Caution:
Be sure that the power switch on the APX 1000 ac power supply is off when
connecting the supply to an approved ac source.

The back panel of the ac supply has two status lights, described in Table 2-4.
