Life Fitness 9100/9500HR Belt Drive Stairclimbers
How To… REMOVE AND REPLACE ALTERNATOR
Tools Required: 5/32” Allen head wrench, Phillips screwdriver, 3/4” Wrench (2) 1/2”, 1/4” and 5/16” wrench
Step 1
Turn the power OFF. Disconnect the power cord from the outlet.
Step 2
Remove the HOUSING (See “How To...”).
Step 3
Remove the POSITIVE RED WIRES (2) from their POSTS on the ALTERNATOR. With a 1/4” wrench, remove the
NUTS (2) securing the ORG/WHT FIELD WIRE and the 2 PURPLE GROUND WIRES. With a 5/16” wrench,
remove the REGULATOR TERMINAL NUT and the GROUND TERMINAL NUT.
Step 4
With a 3/4” wrench, remove the ALTERNATOR LOCK NUT and WASHERS (2) on the ALTERNATOR PIVOT
BOLT by turning the ALTERNATOR LOCK NUT counter-clockwise while holding the ALTERNATOR PIVOT BOLT
in place. Remove the BOLT.
Step 5
With a 1/2” wrench, remove the ALTERNATOR ADJUSTMENT BOLT and WASHERS (2).
Step 6
Cup your right hand under the ALTERNATOR and lift upward. This will remove tension off the BELT.
Step 7
Loop the BELT around the ALTERNATOR FLYWHEEL which is located at the end of the ALTERNATOR SHAFT.
Remove the ALTERNATOR from the machine and put the new ALTERNATOR in it’s place.
NOTE: With a belt tension gauge, measure the belt tension. If the belt tension measures less than 120 lb.,
the alternator adjustment bolt must be readjusted.
Step 8
Reverse steps 1 through 7 to return all parts to their proper position.
