In BERTL's product evaluation, the Lexmark X792de Color Laser MFP demonstrated exceptional
performance by delivering excellent image quality and outstanding print and copy productivity. This
product is packed with tons of features and functions not typically found in this class. The Lexmark
X792de comes standard with Print, Copy, Scan, Fax functions, all at a very competitive price.
The ease of use on this product also sets it apart from its competitors. The Lexmark X792de MFP
features a 10.2 inch color e-Task touch screen (largest in its class) that features Adobe Flash Lite
integration into the display and yields a fast performing user interface. The e-Task control panel also
features audible and tactile feedback to the user. The device includes a front USB port which allows for
convenient walk-up previewing, printing, and scanning. Media support and handling on this device is
outstanding, as it features a robust paper-feeding design and provides users with easy front access to
all consumables. The Duplex Automatic Document Feeder (DADF) supports up to 75-sheets and
features built-in duplex printing and scanning.
The Lexmark X792de Color Laser MFP offers versatile media handling and flexibility, with the ability to
print on stock as heavy as 47 lbs bond (176 g/s
2
) and paper sizes up to 8.5” x 14”. Standard paper
capacity is 650 sheets, (550-Sheet Paper Drawer and 100-sheet Multipurpose Feeder) and can be
expanded to a sizeable 2,650 sheets. The output bin on this product can hold up to 500 sheets for
large print runs. During BERTL’s extensive testing of the Lexmark X792de MFP, this office-color, laser-
based MFP for mid-size to large workgroups performed exceptionally well. BERTL observed the
following when testing the device:
Simplex monochrome print speed with the PostScript driver was as fast as 49.4 ppm; closely
matching Lexmark's rated speed of 50 ppm. The Universal XL driver was just as fast with a tested
speed of 49.0 ppm.
Duplex monochrome print productivity was very efficient with results measuring up to 49.9 ppm
with the PostScript driver and 49.6 with Universal XL driver.
Simplex color print speed with the Universal XL driver was as fast as 49.4 ppm; closely matching
Lexmark's rated speed of 50 ppm. The PostScript driver was as fast as 45.6 ppm.
Duplex color print productivity was resourceful with speeds as fast as 48.9 ppm with the PostScript
driver and 46.7 with Universal XL driver.
The MyMFP feature allows users to save and retrieve their personal settings on a flash drive,
including their local address book, personal fax numbers, individual copy settings and their own
touch-screen configuration. Users simply walk up to the MFP, slide in their flash drive and the
MFP changes into their own personal device.
Lexmark’s Embedded Web Server provides detailed device and consumable status, and offers
network administrators the ability to configure and manage device settings. The device can also be
setup to conveniently send email alerts notifying network administrators of common hang-ups,
such as low toner levels, to help maintain an uninterrupted workflow.
Security features include IPSec, SNMPv3 and 802.1x authentication, secure data encryption and
disk wiping.
Advanced energy and supply-saving features, which include an instant warm-up fuser and scanner
lamps, Sleep and Hibernate buttons, built-in two-sided printing, and Eco-Mode and Quiet Mode
which save energy and reduce noise. The device also ships with Lexmark Return Program Toner
Cartridges, which can be returned to Lexmark free of charge for remanufacturing or recycling.
