2. Turn on your computer. When the logo screen is displayed, immediately press F1 to enter ThinkPad
Setup.

Disable built-in battery
and press Enter.
5. Select
Yes
in the Setup Confirmation window. The built-in battery is disabled and the computer turns off
automatically. Wait three to five minutes to let the computer cool.
The built-in battery will be automatically enabled when the ac power adapter is reconnected to the computer.
Replacing the base cover assembly
Before you start, print these instructions. Read the important safety information first. See “Important
safety information” on page vi.
To replace the base cover assembly, do the following:
1. Disable the built-in battery. See “Disabling the built-in battery” on page 103.
2. Turn off the computer and disconnect the ac power adapter and all cables from the computer.
3. Close the computer display and turn the computer over.
4. Loosen the screws that secure the base cover assembly

. Then remove the base cover assembly

5. Install the new base cover assembly

and pivot it downwards

. Then tighten the screws to secure
the new base cover assembly
