Removing a damaged Storage Enclosure chassis from the rack
This section provides a procedure for removing a damaged Storage Enclosure chassis from its rack
location.
IMPORTANT:
A Storage Enclosure chassis is a Field Replaceable Unit (FRU) rather than a CRU. FRUs must
be installed only by trained service technicians. For additional information, contact
not perform the steps below unless directed to do so by your service technician.
CAUTION:
It is recommended that all disk drive modules be removed before removing the enclosure. If
this is not possible, two people are required to move the enclosure.
1.
Disconnect the power cables and data cables between devices, as needed:
• Between cascaded Storage Enclosures.
• Between the Storage Enclosure and the host RAID ESM.
Label the cables to return to the original cabling configuration using the replacement chassis.
2.
Remove the retaining screws that secure the front and rear of the enclosure chassis to the rack and rails.
3.
Maintaining a level position, carefully slide the enclosure chassis from the rack.
4.
Place the chassis on a work surface near the replacement enclosure chassis, the removed disk drive
modules, and screws.
5.
Remove the side bracket from each side of the damaged enclosure chassis, and retain these rackmount
items with the other components for future use.
5.
Remove the power supply units from the damaged
chassis, and install them in the replacement
chassis.
