Removing an ESM
IMPORTANT:
• In a single-ESM environment, you must stop I/O and power off the enclosure before replacing the
ESM.
• In a dual-ESM environment, you may hot-replace a single ESM in a Storage Enclosure.
• In a dual-ESM environment—if replacing both ESMs—you must adhere to the instructions provided
in Before you begin on page 43.
Illustrations in the ESM replacement procedures show rear panel views of the enclosure, and ESMs are
properly aligned for insertion into the rear panel of the enclosure.
1. Disconnect any cables connected to the ESM.
2. Label each cable to facilitate re-connection.
3. Turn the thumbscrews counterclockwise until they disengage from the ESM (see Figure 27 on page 44).

4. Press both latches downward to disconnect the ESM from the midplane (see Figure 28 ).

5. Pull the ESM straight out of the enclosure such that the ESM remains level during removal (see
Figure 29 ).
