 Ensure the air gap between the measuring surface and target wheel is in the per-
missible range (see Table → page 36 ).
3.5 Contamination
An accumulation of ferromagnetic material between the measuring surface and the
teeth on the measuring scale can make it impossible for the MiniCODER to unambig-
uously detect the change from tooth to gap between teeth.

Regularly check the MiniCODER for contamination and clean it if necessary.
3.6 Electrostatic discharge
Electrostatic discharge can irreparably damage the electronic
components.
Only touch the connector pins and connection wires
if your body is suitably earthed, for example via an
ESD wrist strap.
3.7 Cable routing
The connection cable may be damaged if bent excessively.
Pay attention to the minimum bending radius stated in the related tech-
nical information.
3.8 Target wheel
Mechanical inaccuracies in the tooth period, the tooth shape and the circularity can
degrade the measuring accuracy.

Only use the target wheel as a measuring scale so that the teeth do not wear.
On designs with reference flag:

Ensure the reference flag does not protrude beyond the tip circle to prevent contact
between the reference lug and the measuring surface.
The reference mark can produce an imbalance that can cause increased vibration at
critical high rotational speeds.

If you manufacture the target wheel yourself, compensate for the imbalance by at-
taching counter weights or making balancing bores in the target wheel.
At high rotational speeds with a large target wheel there are high centrifugal forces
acting on the outer gear rim. Additional vibration occurs in the machine. As a result the
reference flag could become detached. The rotational speed at which vibration critical
for the target wheel could occur is dependent on the size and module of the target wheel
and the situation on the machine.
