5 OPERATING THE SPLENDIMO PC
During operation of the machine the safety shields (fig.
12) always have to be fitted to the sides.
Make sure that nobody is near the machine at the moment
the PTO is engaged.
Do not allow anyone to come within a 100 m radius from
the machine during work.
Stop the tractor engine before leaving the tractor cab.
Never start the machine with the drawbar ram in
transport position (make sure to completely extend the
drawbar ram first).
The following directions should be followed for operating
the machine.
- Make sure that the ram valves are opened.
- Extend the drawbar ram completely.
- Lower the machine by means of the hydraulic ram (fig. 14)
until it is just above crop level.
- Engage the PTO shaft at the lowest possible engine RPM.
Rev up PTO speed up to 1.000 RPM which is the
maximum RPM allowed during work.
- Lower the machine into the crop.
- Ensure the floating position of the hydraulic valve; the ram
has to telescope smoothly throughout the operation.
- Do not drive too slowly. Effective working speeds start at
approx. 8 km/h. A lower speed may affect crop flow-
through across the cutter bar.
- Make sure that the PTO speed of 1.000 RPM is maintained
during work. A (temporary) drop of speed may cause crop
entanglement in the cutter bar and/or winding of long crop
material underneath the discs.
- First, lift the machine from the crop and then reduce your
PTO speed immediately.
The lift ram raises the cutter bar approx. 25 cm over ground
surface which is sufficient for fast field manoeuvering.
Should the conditioner tend to get frequently clogged when
working in long crops we advise you to move the rotor one
position to the rear (see supplement B).
