7.3 Control parameters
To operate your constant temperature equipment, a few control parameters
are factory-set. These control parameters were determined with the heat
transfer liquid, water, for the internal control and external control, and opti-
mized for each type of device.
It may be necessary to change the preset control parameters in the following
cases:
The characteristics of your application require a different configuration,
for example, for the external temperature control of very small or very
large masses.
The properties of your heat transfer liquid must be taken into account,
for example, heat capacity and viscosity can influence the control action.
Only modify the control parameters if you have adequate knowl-
edge of control system engineering.
Observe the corresponding instructions in your constant tem-
perature equipment’s operating manual.
7.3.1 Self adaptation
The self-adaptation function can be used to automatically find the best
control parameters for the internal bath application or external application.
Note the following instructions:
Self-adaptation can only be performed on constant temperature equip-
ment with active cooling.
The self-adaptation function performs a test run of the constant tem-
perature equipment to determine the parameters. The constant tem-
perature equipment and, if applicable, the external application must be
ready for operation.
The self-adaptation test is performed with the preset pump level. The
best results can be expected at the highest pump levels.
The adaptation cycle must be performed on a passive system. In other
words, changes cannot be made to the system and exothermic or endo-
thermic reactions must not occur during the test run.
The adaptation cycle takes between 30 minutes and a maximum of 3 hours,
depending on the application. During the run, the bath temperature deviates
by a maximum of ±15 Kelvin from the defined set point. At the end of the
adaptation cycle, the calculated control parameters are adopted automati-
cally and can be saved.
