Troubleshooting Chart
Problem
Cause
Solution
Motor oil seal leaking
Return line from motor has been pinched
or is collapsed.
Replace lower seal of motor. Check
motor return hose for kinks.
Spindle hub seal leaking
Return line from motor has been pinched
or is collapsed.
Replace lower seal of motor and spindle
hub output shaft seal. Check motor return
hose for kinks.
Driveline is bent.
(NOTE: power take-off tractor
hitch shaft should be repaired or
replaced if bent)
Contacting drawbar or bottoming out.
Reposition drawbar. Replace power take-
off tubes and cut to correct length.
Blades wearing excessively
Cutting on sandy ground.
Raise cutting height.
Blades coming loose
Blade bolts not tightened properly.
Torque blade bolt nuts to 450 ft lbs.
Blades bending
Hitting solid objects.
Thoroughly check the cutting area
BEFORE beginning to cut. Be alert
during cutting.
Loose blade carrier
Worn spindle hub bearings.
Replace spindle hub bearings and/or
shaft.
Shaft nut loose.
Tighten spindle hub shaft nut to
450 ft lbs.
Blade carrier bent
Hitting solid objects.
Replace damaged blades.
Be alert, avoid solid objects.
Excessive skid shoe wear
Cutting height not level.
Adjust deck height.
Soil abrasive.
Raise cutting height.
Cutting too low.
Raise cutting height.
Excessive vibration
Locked blades.
Inspect and unlock blades.
Blades have unequal weight.
Replace blades as a PAIR.
Driveline is bent.
Straighten or replace Driveline.
Blade carrier bent.
Replace/straighten blade carrier.
power take-off cross not centered with
yoke.
Disassemble and inspect for incorrectly
located needles or damaged bearing cap.
Hydraulic cylinder rod moves slow
or jerky
Air in oil.
Purge cylinder and hydraulic lines of air.
Hydraulic cylinder fittings leak oil
Loose fittings.
Tighten fittings.
Cracked fittings from over-tightening.
Replace fittings, don’t over-tighten.
Cylinder port cracked.
Repair or replace cylinder.
Hydraulic cylinder leaks oil
around the rod
Seals are damaged or worn.
Replace seals.
Cylinder rod is damaged.
Clean or replace cylinder rod.
Cylinder rod is bent.
Determine cause of overload on cylinder
rod. Replace cylinder rod.
Cylinder rod is bent
Operator abuse.
Travel slower. Don’t hit objects with the
deck while moving.
Interference with cylinder operation.
Don’t extend or retract cylinders with
obstructions in the way. Move cutter or
clean obstructions out of the way.
Hydraulic cylinders will
not extend and/or retract
Orifice elbow on rod end is plugged.
Clean orifice fitting.
Hydraulic cylinders will not retract
Cylinder rod is bent.
Replace cylinder.
