Proper installation
2.1
Installation conditions
2.1.1 Surface
Collection systems must only be installed on a level surface. The surface beneath the collection
system must be made up (asphalt, concrete, etc.) and able to support the load.
An inclined surface may be necessary for constructive reasons, such as e.g. leak collection as
specific points.
2.1.2 Collision protection
Collection systems must be protected against foreseeable possible damage from
outside:
- Collision protection (e.g. at the corners)
- Installation in a suitable room
- Installation away from transport routes
2.1.3 Checks
The collection system must be installed in such a way that it is possible to check the under-side
at any time.
LaCont GmbH recommends a thorough annual check of the collection system.
In addition, collection systems must be thoroughly checked after incidents such as leaks
and/or collisions.
Collection system checks must be documented.
2.1.4 Open-air installation
If the collection system is to be installed in the open air then only a protected collection system
should be used (i.e. one equipped with a roof).
Open troughs must be installed under a roof.
3.
Proper operation
3.1
Loading / Load-bearing capacity
The load-bearing capacity of the collection system must be observed, i.e. the maximum load
on the grid and the maximum stackability. If drum-stacking pallets or similar are used then the
design load must also be taken into consideration.
If floor safety elements are driven on then, in addition to the design load, the dynamic load
must also be taken into consideration.
The permitted load-bearing capacity of the grid in given on the type plate of the particular
collection system.
3.2
Resistance
Before the collection system is used, and each time the stored substances are changed,
it must be proved that the material of the collection system is resistant to the stored
substance.
