1. Introduction
1.1 Welcome
T hank you for choosing a Lab.gruppen PD X Series product. T his manua l provides a comprehensive guide to the features and functiona l ity of PD X Series mode l
PD X 3000 and PD X 2000 amp l ifi ers. We high l y recommend you read through this manua l in its entirety to become fu ll y acquainted with confi guration options and
protection circuitry. As you become thorough l y fami l iar with a ll aspects of operation, you may l earn of features or options that wi ll aff ect your choices on amp l ifi er
modes or l oudspeaker system confi guration.
Lab.gruppen PD X Series power amp l ifi ers are designed and bui l t with competitive price and good performance and protection features in mind. A l though the PD X
Series features a competitive price, each amp l ifi er draws on the engineering that has made Lab.gruppen the benchmark of qua l ity for touring concert systems:
exceptiona l sonic performance, rugged construction, proven re l iabi l ity, and protection features that anticipate every unwe l come possibi l ity – that is the core of the
“ Show must go on ” design phi l osophy that every Lab.gruppen product is created with, with a we ll matched feature set per product range depending on the expected
app l ication. T his manua l was created for the PD X Series 3000 and 2000 amp l ifi er mode l s. Any references to “ PD X Series ” in this manua l refer to a ll mode l s in the range.
1.2 Features
Y our new PD X Series amp l ifi er incorporates a number of sophisticated techno l ogies – many of them proprietary to Lab.gruppen – that ensure the best
possib l e performance and years of re l iab l e operation. F ami l iarizing yourse l f with these techno l ogies wi ll prove inva l uab l e in setting up and optimizing your
l oudspeaker system.
1.3 Class D output stage
A ll PD X Series amp l ifi ers emp l oy our unique I D EE A C l ass D output stage that is idea ll y matched to the rated power output. T o provide fl exibi l ity, each channe l off ers
suffi cient vo l tage swing and current capacity to drive l oads in any impedance without any additiona l confi guration. I n order to have l ow therma l l osses as we ll as a
high vo l tage swing, the design is based on a permanent l y bridged output.
1.4 Protection and performance optimization
Appropriate and re l iab l e power amp l ifi cation is vita l to any audio system. I nadequate or fau l ty power amp l ifi ers cou l d cause damage to l oudspeakers, or in some cases
to the power amp l ifi ers themse l ves. T o prevent damage or service interruptions, PD X Series amp l ifi ers off er advanced features to protect both interna l circuits and
connected l oads. T hese features are part of the Lab.gruppen phi l osophy “ Show must go on ” .
Standard on the PD X Series protection features inc l ude:
• CP L (C urren t P ea k Limi t er ) ensures that the amp l ifi er’s output does not exceed the safe current hand l ing parameters of the amp l ifi er components.
• T em p era t ure p ro t ec t ion ensures that the amp l ifi er wi ll not be damaged by exceeding therma l l imits. T he RD Y L E D fl ashes orange when the amp l ifi er approaches
therma l l imits to a ll ow user action before protective muting engages.
• DC p ro t ec t ion ensures destructive DC signa l s wi ll not appear at the amp l ifi er outputs. I f such conditions occur an interna l fuse opens.
• RS L (R ai l S ensing Limi t er ) is app l ied to avoid distortion at the se l ected vo l tage l imit thresho l d and to avoid hitting the rai l if it has sagged be l ow the confi gured
thresho l d. Limiting a l so may be app l ied when maximum output current has been reached or when the mains vo l tage is too l ow to maintain required rai l vo l tage.

1.5 DSP features and PDX controller software
PD X series feature a comprehensive DSP functions such as crossover, parametric E Q, de l ay, l imiter, dynamic E Q and input mixing, making the PD X series suitab l e for
a broad range of insta ll ed and touring app l ications. T he PD X series can be contro ll ed through the usage of front pane l or PD X Contro ll er software by connecting to a
PC with USB.
1.6 Unpacking and visual checks
E very Lab.gruppen amp l ifi er is carefu ll y tested and inspected before l eaving the factory and shou l d arrive in perfect condition. I f any damage is discovered,
p l ease notify the shipping carrier immediate l y.
Save the packing materia l s for the carrier’s inspection and for any future shipping.
1.7 Cooling
T he PD X Series devices use a forced-air coo l ing system with front to rear airfl ow, a ll owing high continuous power l eve l s without therma l prob l ems.
P l ease ensure that there is suffi cient space in the front and rear of each amp l ifi er to a ll ow free fl ow of air, no doors or covers shou l d be mounted either in the front or
rear of the amp l ifi ers.
Amp l ifi ers may be stacked direct l y on top of each other with no spacing, though some spacing may enab l e more convenient insta ll ation of rear cab l ing.
F it so l id b l anks (not venti l ation b l anks) to unused rack spaces to ensure eff ective air circu l ation. Leaving gaps in between items of equipment degrades the
eff ectiveness of forced-air coo l ing.
1.8 Operating voltage
A l ways connect your PD X amp l ifi er to the vo l tage specifi ed on the rear of the device. Connecting the amp to an incorrect vo l tage can permanent l y damage your amp.
• USA / Canada / Japan = 100-120 V ~ , 50/60 H z
• UK / Austra l ia / E urope / Korea / China 220-240 V ~ , 50/60 H z
T he l ocking IE C receptac l e on the rear pane l accepts the supp l ied IE C cord which terminates in a connector appropriate for the country of sa l e.
2. Control
2.1 Front Panel
T he fo ll owing indicators and contro l s are avai l ab l e on the front pane l ( F ig. 1):

(1) RACK E ARS secure the unit into a rack using four attaching screws and washers (fasteners not inc l uded). T he height requires two rack units.

V E NTI L ATION openings a ll ow front-to-rear air circu l ation to prevent overheating.
(3) INPUT CONTRO L S adjust the input l eve l for each channe l . T o attenuate the input signa l , rotate the knobs counter-c l ockwise.

PROC E SS button steps through the DSP processing modu l es.
(5)
S E TUP button accesses basic device confi guration functions such as presets, pane l l ock, device name and screen contrast.

LE V EL LE D s disp l ay the signa l l eve l for each channe l . Reduce the input gain if a channe l ’s red L I M L E D l ights up continuous l y.

L CD SCR EE N disp l ays the current DSP modu l e and parameter settings.

UP/DOWN buttons navigates through menus by stepping up/down through parameters.

E XIT button acts as a

back
”
button and takes you back one step in the menu hierarchy per press.

S ELE CT encoder knob togg l es between Graphic and E dit modes (when pressed) and changes parameter va l ues (when rotated).

POW E R button turns the amp l ifier on and off.
