8 Trouble-shooting
Causes Remedy
The pump pressure must be released before at-
tempting to remedy faults on parts which are sub-
jected to pressure.
Disconnect the pump from the power supply.

The overcurrent circuit breaker has tripped the
unit (for E).
Press reset button on the terminal box.
/ /
The temperature switch monitoring the winding
temperature has tripped the unit (for D).
The motor will restart automatically once the unit has
cooled down.

Motor is not running because of lack of voltage. Check the electric equipment.
Notify the energy supply company.

Motor is running on two phases only. Replace the defective fuse.
Check the electric cable connections.

Motor is not running because the level control de-
vice is defective/has jammed.
Check the level control device; if required, contact
KSB’s pump service.

Motor is not running because the winding or elec-
tric cable are defective.
Contact KSB’s pump service.

Operating voltage is too low. Check the mains voltage.
Check the electric cable connections.

Reverse rotation. Interchange two of the phases of the power supply
cable.

Pump is running in the off-design operating range
(low flow/overload).
Check the pump’s operating data.

Wear of internal pump parts. Replace worn components by new ones.

Pump delivers against an excessively high dis-
charge pressure.
Fully open shut-off valve.

Pump clogged by sand, dirt in the pump sump,
insufficient inflow.
Clean the intake, sand trap, screen at the volute casing,
pump components and swing check or non-return
valve. Drain and clean the pump sump.
Replace worn components by new ones.

Pump is warped or sympathetic vibrations in piping. Check pipeline connections and secure fixing of pump;
if required, reduce the distances between the pipe
clamps.
Fix the pipelines using anti-vibration material.

Dirt/fibres in the clearance between the casing
wall and impeller; sluggish rotor.
Check whether the impeller can be easily rotated; clean
the hydraulic system, if required.

Defective riser pipe (pipe, seal elements,
non-return valve if fitted).
Fit new piping elements.

Rotor is out of balance; shaft is warped. Clean impeller.
Install a new shaft.

Excessive temperature of the fluid pumped. Reduce temperature.

Cavitation (crackling noise). Check steam trap.
Increase positive suction head.
