14. MAINTENANCE
5.1. CLEANING
Chlorinators with a change of polarity have self-cleaning cells, which means they require
minimum maintenance. In exceptional cases, when the lime content is excessively high (i.e. very
hard water), the chlorinator may be unable to eliminate all the deposits. In this case, the lime level
needs to be adjusted to normal levels and the cell has to be cleaned.
Process:
Turn off the chlorinator, disconnect the cell’s cable and remove the cell. The dirty
cell should be put in a bucket with a 20% hydrochloric acid solution (8 parts water and 2 parts
hydrochloric acid). Sufficient solution needs to be made up to allow the cell to be completely
submerged (do not submerge the top, which houses the connections). For safety, remember to first
add the water and then the hydrochloric acid (HCl). It is also possible to clean the cell with a
pressure washer. Do not use a metal scraper to remove any lime scale remaining on the plates.
