Part Load Capability
The Smile can be operated in part load conditions if at full throttle
and full load the battery current not exceeds the Smile continuos
current limit. It will get warm in this operation. Don’t do too long.
Sensorless
The Smile speed control works without sensors in the motor.
Therefore the commutation of the motor will be optimized to the
application automatically. But this means also that the Smile can
not detect the motor position at zero RPM. Therefore it is possible
that the motor will oscillate and move a bit in the wrong direction
when started at zero RPM. Looseness in a gear box complicate the
motor start and should be avoided.
BEC
When using the Smile in an helicopter more than 8 cells should
not be used, because all servos are often in use and the gyro is
additionally.
This speed control have an automatic undervoltage cut off at
0.8V/cell. When using the speed control
with only 6 cells
the cut
off voltage will be 4.8V. This might be to late for the BEC. When
using a mode without undervoltage cut off (e.g. motor plane) it is
necessary to leave enough current in the battery!
It is necessary to place the speed control in an air stream
because its strength depends directly on the cooling. If a strong
warming up of the speed control is recognized during use (e.g.
cracks in the heat-shrinkable tube), the reason can be, except for
an excessive load, a too high load of the Rx current supplies
(BEC).
Caution:
overload of Rx leads to lower supply voltage of
the Rx. This can at extreme cut off the Rx. Therefore, the
maximum values for the servos must not be exceeded.
A 4 cell receiving battery can be use parallel to the BEC. It is
pocketed into a free slot of the Rx. This increases the safety of Rx
current supply. However, an effective load of the Rx battery is not
possible. Therefore the connection of an empty Rx battery must be
avoided. This would not increase but would decrease safety.
