RECORDING - ADVANCED OPERATION
Self timer
The self timer is used for self-portraits. It delays the release of the
shutter or the start of a movie or audio recording by 10 or 3 sec-
onds. The self timer is available in all recording menus. See page 36
for menu operation.
Self-timer indicator
When set, an indicator is displayed on the monitor.
Set the camera on a tripod and confirm the subject will be within the
AF area when the shutter releases; focus is determined just before
the exposure. Press the shutter-release button all the way down to
start the timer. The self-timer lamp on the front of the camera blinks
during the countdown; it flashes quickly just before the picture is
taken. To stop the countdown before the exposure, turn off the cam-
era; the ten-second self timer is canceled.
The ten-second self-timer is canceled after the exposure or when
the camera is turned off. The three-second self timer remains active
after the exposure. Use the menu to cancel the self timer.
Self-timer lamp
When using the camera on a tripod, photographs of static subjects (landscapes, still-lifes, or
macro photographs) can be made with the three-second self timer. Because no contact is
made with the camera during exposure, there is no risk of camera shake caused by the opera-
tor.
