• When cooking soup, leave a gap of at least 5 cm between the top edge of the pot
and the soup.
• Many recipes need to be cooked all day. If you do not have time to prepare the
food the same morning, prepare the food the night before and store it in a sealed
container in the fridge overnight. Put the ingredients in the pot in the morning and
add liquid. Then select the desired temperature setting.
• Most recipes containing meat and vegetables require 8–10 hours of cooking on
“LOW”, or 4–6 hours on “HIGH”.
• Some foods are unsuitable for slow cooking. Pasta, seafood, milk and cream should
be added towards the end of the cooking time.
• Smaller pieces of food cook faster.
• Once the ingredients have been cooked, turn off the slow cooker by setting the
control knob to “OFF”, but leave the lid on. The heat in the pot is enough to keep the
contents warm for at least 30 minutes. If you want to keep the food warm for longer
than that, set the control knob to “LOW” or “WARM”.
• All ingredients must be covered with liquid, stock or sauce. You can prepare the liquid
in a separate pan or jug and then pour it into the pot until it covers the ingredients.
• Precooking or browning meat and onions in a separate pan to seal in juices reduces
the fat content before putting the food in the pot. This also improves the flavour.
• When cooking different types of meat, ham, chicken, etc. are cooked, the total size
and shape of the ingredients is important. Try not to fill the pot more than 2/3 full
and fully cover with the lid. If necessary, cut the ingredients into smaller pieces.
CARE AND CLEANING
Always make sure that the slow cooker is unplugged and that the control knob is set to
“OFF” before cleaning and storing it. Also make sure that the slow cooker has cooled
down completely before cleaning and storing it.
1. Use hot water and washing-up liquid to clean the pot and lid. To remove food
residues stuck to the bottom of the pot, soak it overnight in soapy water and then
rinse the next day. Do not wash the pot in a dishwasher.
2. Clean the outside of the slow cooker’s base unit with a damp cloth, then dry.
Do not use abrasive detergents or coarse scouring pads to clean the base unit, as
this will damage the surface. Never immerse the slow cooker’s base unit in water.
3. After use, the screw holding the knob to the glass lid may have loosened a little. After
cleaning the slow cooker’s glass lid, check that the screw is still securely fastened.
