2.2.1 Cold Main Pipework
Please refer to local code for cold mains pipe work installation.
Run the cold main through the building to the place where the KINGSPAN TRIBUNE is to be installed. Take care not to run
the cold pipe near hot water or heating pipe work so that the heat pick-up is minimized. Identify the cold water supply pipe and
fit an isolating valve (not supplied). A quarter turn full bore valve is ideal as it does not restrict the flow as much. Do not use
“screwdriver slot” or similar valves.
Thermal Expansion:
Determine if a check valve exists in the cold inlet water line (These may be incorporated in a pressure reducing valve, water
softener, water meter or as a separate back flow preventer).
If a check valve exists then this will cause a closed water system meaning that thermal expansion may cause a pressure build
up within your hot water tank. In such a case an expansion tank must be fitted to allow for any excess pressure caused by
thermal expansion. Please see figure.2 for reference.
Water pressure:
If the incoming water pressure is over 80 PSI a pressure reducing valve (Water pressure regulator) must be fitted. This is to be
located on the inlet water line before the tank so that the inlet pressure to the tank does not exceed 80 PSI.
Make the connection to the cold feed of the tank.
Select a suitable position for the expansion tank. Mount it to the wall. Use the flexible hose or pipe to connect to the expansion
relief valve.
