media but to a different card (e.g. from one Microdrive to
another Microdrive), the maximum file number recorded
in EVERIO is one. The recording will be continued from
that number in sequential numbers.
e.g. If a SD Card is changed to another SD Card after
shooting from 0001 to 0100, the recording will be started
on the newly inserted SD Card in sequential numbers
from 0101.

Pictures are recorded as JPEG compression picture Exif2..2,
DCF2.0, PictBridge, DPOF standard conformity. There is no re-
striction of picture recording media or spec, but equivalent trans-
mission speed as for movies is required for rapid shooting. 
Picture recording is explained as follows.

2.4.7.3.1

Image size and recording numbers

The value varies slightly according on each medium, Microdrive,
Compact flash card, and SD card. In addition, these values are
theoretical values, and it does not guarantee the recording num-
bers. 

2.4.7.4

Audio (Voice memo)

Folder names and file names of audio files are created as
follows.

Remarks

(1) It does not playback the objects other than the VOICE

SUB FOLDER format (JVCMC folder names after 3 digit
numbers).

(2) It does not playback the objects other than the DATA

FILE(numbers from 0001 to 9000 after the  MCBA letters
+ WAV extension data).It does not playback WAV files
with long file names created by PCs etc.

(3) It checks the ID information in the files. Once the files are

determined as re-playable WAV files, they are registered
in playback list in orders.

(4) When a medium with multi partition is inserted, it

displays and operates the primary partition only.

(5) When the files are renamed 9000 or over with the PC, or

another file is inserted, they become the object of
playback.

RDI

RDI stands for Real-time Data Information Pack (RDI_PCK).
Similar information as Navigation Pack in the DVD-Video
standard is written in RDI.The information to realize the
playback function such as parental level selection, angle
selection, and story selection is recorded. It is added to
simplify the creation of the navigation pack when high-speed
dubbing to DVD-Videos is carried out in corresponding
recorders etc. in future. It is not necessary at the moment.GOP
cycle and picture numbers are as same as common DVD etc. 
They are fixed in all moving image mode as shown below. 
NTSC :M=3, N=15
PAL  :M=3, N=12

Audio is recorded linear PCM digital recording system (WAV),
stereo.There is no restriction of audio recording media or spec. 
Audio recording is explained as follows.

2.4.8 HiTest
2.4.8.1

Introduction

CF II compliant 1-inch small hard disk (Microdrive) is used as a
recording medium of this model.  For operation check and main-
tenance of the Microdrive, drive diagnostic test software HiTest
is used with a license agreement from Hitachi Global Storage
Technologies (HGST) which supplies Microdrives to JVC. 
Although the Drive Diagnostics & Disposition software (DDD
Software) had been used for operation check of the Microdrives,
HGST finished developing the DDD Software. As a result, DDD
can not be used with upcoming Microdrives and new OS for PCs. 
The DDD Software which had writing test and required backup
procedures before carrying out the DDD test to protect the re-
corded contents of the users.
