QuickStart Guide, Juniper Networks NetScreen-IDP 3.0 | 23
If IDP-IN does not receive three consecutive heartbeats, the Bypass Unit
considers the IDP appliance to be inactive and automatically begins handling
traffic for the IDP appliance. While active, the Bypass Unit continues to send
heartbeats through the IDP appliance. When the Bypass unit receives three
consecutive heartbeats, it considers the IDP appliance active and automatically
discontinues handling traffic.
Each NetScreen-IDP 100, 500, or 1000 supports two NS-IDP-BYPs, however you
must use the specified port pairs.
Enabling NSRP Frames
The Bypass Unit passes NSRP frames. However, because other software
applications also use NSRP layer-2 frames, you must enable the Sensor to pass
NSRP frames
only
from the Bypass Unit. To restrict NSRP frames, edit the
user_funcs files:
1. From the Sensor command line, open
/usr/idp/device/bin/
user_funcs
in a text editor. Locate the lines:
user_start_begin()
{
2. Add the following line below:
$SCIO const set sc_enable_bypass_unit 1
3. Save and exit.
Reboot the IDP Sensor by typing:
reboot;reboot
