6.0 Maintenance
6.1 Cleaning glass
Some soot may form on the glass, but the amount will
depend on the local conditions and regulation of the air valve.
Some good advice!
For normal cleaning - moisten a kitchen
paper with warm water and remove some ash from the
combustion chamber. Rub over the glass and then wash with
clean water. Dry well. If there is a need to clean the glass
more thoroughly, use only a glass cleaner.
NB! Follow the
instructions on the
fl
box.
6.2 Ash removal
1. Remove the ashes only when the
fi
replace is cold
2. Always leave some ash as a protective layer against the
bottom of the
fi
replace.
3. Ash should be placed securely outdoors, or emptied in a
place where the ash does not pose a
fi
re hazard.
6.3 Cleaning and soot removal in
product
During
fi
ring, a soot coating may form on the inside of the
fi
replace's heaters. Soot has a good insulating e
ff
ect, and will
therefore reduce the
fi
replace's heat dissipation.
An annual cleaning of the inside will be necessary to get the
maximum heat yield of the product. Feel free to do this in
connection with sweeping the chimney and
fl
ue.
6.4 Sweeping of chimney to
chimney
The easiest way to clean the
fl
ue is to take out the vault and
sweep throught the door of the
fi
replace. See
«7.0 Service».
6.5 Control of the
fi
replace
Jøtul recommends that you yourself control your
fi
replace
carefully after sweeping / cleaning has been completed.
Check all visible surfaces for cracks. Also make sure that all
joints are tight and that the gaskets are in place. Gaskets that
are worn or deformed should be replaced.
Clean the packing groove well, apply ceramic glue (available
from your local Jøtul dealer), and press the packing
fi
rmly
into place. After a short time, the joint is dry.
6.6 Exterior maintenance
Varnished products
will be able to change color after a few
years of use. The surface should be sanded and brushed
free of loose particles before applying new Jøtul oven slack.
