3.0 Safety
NB! to ensure optimal function and safety, Jøtul
recommends that the installation be carried out by a
quali
fi
ed
fi
tter (see complete dealer list at www.jotul.com).
Any changes to the product made by the dealer, installer or user
may cause the product and safety features to malfunction. The
same applies to the installation of accessories or accessories
not supplied by Jøtul. This can also happen if elements
necessary for the function and safety of the
fi
replace have been
dismantled or removed.
In all these cases, the manufacturer disclaims its liability, and
the right of complaint lapses.
3.1 Fire prevention measures
Any use of
fi
replaces can represent a certain danger.
Therefore, observe the following instructions:
• The minimum permissible safety distances for installation
and use of the
fi
replace are given in
fi
g. 1
.
• Make sure that furniture and other
fl
ammable materials do
not get too close to the
fi
replace. The minimum distance in
front of the
fi
replace opening for combustible material must
be
1300 mm
.
• Let
the
fi
re burn out. Never extinguish it with water.
• The
fi
replace becomes hot during
fi
ring, and can cause
burns if touched.
• Remove the ash only when the
fi
replace is cold. Ash can
contain embers and should therefore be stored in a non-
combustible container.
• Ash must be properly placed outdoors or emptied where
there is no
fi
re hazard.
In case of
fi
re in a chimney:
• Close all hatches and valves.
• Keep the loading door closed.
• Check attic and basement for smoke development.
• Call
the
fi
re department.
• Before
the
fi
replace can be used after a
fi
re or a
fi
re, the
fi
replace and chimney must be inspected and found in
order by quali
fi
ed personnel.
3.2 Floor
Foundations
One must make sure that the foundation is dimensioned for
the
fi
replace. See
«2.0 technical data»
for speci
fi
ed weight.
Requirements for protection of wooden
fl
oors below hearth
Jøtul I 570 has a screen plate underneath which screens for
radiation for the
fl
oor. The product can therefore be placed
directly on a wodden
fl
oor covered by a sheet of metal
or other suitable non-combustible material. Recommended
thickness min.
0.9 mm.
The board should cover the entire
fl
oor insde the frame.
We recommend the removal of any
fl
ooring that is not
attached to the foundation ("
fl
oating
fl
oors") beneath
the installation.
Jøtul recommends that
fl
oor coverings of combustible
material, such as linoleum, carpets, etc. be removed
under the
fl
oor plate.
Requirements for protection of
combustible
fl
oor in front of the
fi
replace
The
fl
oor in front of the
fi
replace must be protected by
a sheet of metal or other non-combustible material.
Recommended thickness i a minimum of 0.9 mm.
The
fl
oor plate must be in accordance with national laws
and regulations.
Contact your local building authorities regarding restrictions and
installation requirements.
3.3 Wall
Distance to combustible wall behind
insert protected by insulation (
fi
g. 1)
Requirements for insulation
When the insert is mounted in a self-built frame with a
combustible wall protected by insulation material, the following
types and thicknesses of insulation can be selected:
• 100 mm Jøtul JGFW-5 Firewall plate (spesi
fi
c thermal
conductivity =
λ
-verdi = 0,06 W/mK)
• 100 mm Rockwool
fi
re Bats (
λ
-value = 0,046 W/mK)
• 2x150 mm Siporex (
λ
-value = 0,144 W/mK)
• Other materials can be used. The insulation capacity must
the always be equal to or better than heat resistance * (R)
as for 100 mm Jøtul JGFW-5.
• Heat resistance, R is an expression of how wall a material
insulates when the thickness is taken into account. Heat
resistance, R is calcualted as the thickness (d) of the
material divided by the thermal conductivity of the material.
R = d
/
λ
-value.
The heat resistance, R for Jøtul JGFW-5 is 0,83 m2*K/W.

resistance and insulation properties?
Contact your local building authorities regarding restrictions and
installation requirements.
Distance to non-combustible wall (
fi
g. 1)
By non-combustible wall is meant here a non-load-bearing wall
of continuous masonry/concrete.
Requirements for
fi
replace framing
The
fi
replace framing must be made of a non-combustible
material.
Note that the entire rear wall or side wall within the frame must
be covered by insulation /
fi
rewall.
If the
fi
replace mentel for the roof and the roof are made of
combustible material, an extra ceiling must be made over the
top of the heating chamber and over the mantel's valves to
prevent heating of the roof.
