Rams
Always use lifting equipment to manoeuvre the rams when
carrying out any of the tasks detailed here.
!
WARNING
You can be injured if you use faulty lifting equipment.
Make sure that the lifting equipment is in good
condition. Make sure that lifting tackle complies with all
local regulations and is suitable for the job. Make sure
that lifting equipment is strong enough for the job.

Removal and Replacement
Note: When preparing to remove/replace rams, the carrier
machine can be disconnected once the backhoe attachment
has been positioned. Refer to the attachment Operator
Handbook for the correct procedures.
Bucket Ram
1 Lower the bucket to the ground and switch off the
engine. Operate the backhoe controls to relieve circuit
pressure.
2 Remove the tipping link and dipper pivot pins to release
the bucket. Start the engine and raise the dipper clear
of the bucket.
3 With the boom and dipper at approximately 90° to each
other, lower the boom until the dipper rests on the
ground.
4 Switch off the engine and operate the backhoe controls
to relieve system pressure.
5 Clean round the hydraulic fittings and then disconnect
the hoses from the bucket ram pipework. Cap the pipes
and hoses to prevent the ingress of dirt and moisture.
6 Remove lynch pin A and withdraw tipping link pivot pin
B .
7 Support the ram with suitable lifting equipment. Remove
roll pin
C
and drive out pivot pin
D
.
8 Remove roll pin E and drive out pivot pin F .
9 Lift the ram clear.
10 Replacement is the reverse of steps 5 to 9 .
Dipper Ram
1 Raise the dipper fully. Lower the boom onto blocks so
that the bucket is just clear of the ground. Lower the
dipper until the bucket rests on the ground.
2 Switch off the engine and operate the backhoe controls
to relieve system pressure.
3 Clean round the hydraulic fittings and then disconnect
the hoses from the dipper ram pipework. Cap the pipes
and hoses to prevent the ingress of dirt and moisture.
4 Support the ram with suitable lifting equipment. Remove
the two roll pins
G followed by pivot pins H and J in
turn.
5 Lift the ram clear.
6 Replacement is the reverse of steps 3 to 5 .
Boom Ram
1 Carry out steps 1 and 2 of the dipper ram procedure.
2 Clean round the hydraulic fittings and then disconnect
the hoses from the boom ram pipework. Cap the pipes
and hoses to prevent the ingress of dirt and moisture.
3 Support the ram with suitable lifting equipment. Remove
the two roll pins
K followed by pivot pins L and M in
turn.
4 Lift the ram clear, taking care not to damage the dipper
ram if still fitted.
5 Replacement is the reverse of steps 2 to 4 .
Slew Rams
1 Carry out steps 1 and 2 of the dipper ram procedure.
2 The numerical sequence shown in the illustration is a
guide to the removal procedure.
3 While removing:
a Slide top plate 4 up and out of the way over the
group of hoses.
b After removing plate 4 , clean round the hydraulic
fittings and then disconnect the three hoses from
the ram. Cap the pipes and hoses to prevent the
ingress of dirt and moisture.
c Remove pivot pin 6 by driving downwards
through holes in the carriage.
4 Replacement is the reverse of removal.
Note: Make sure the roll pin holes in pins 2 and 6 are
correctly aligned with the corresponding holes in the lugs.
Torque Tightening
Item Torque
3 610 Nm (450 lbf ft).
