Symptom
Cause
Remedy
1.
Pump not
A.No power
A.Check circuit breakers and power source.
operating
B. Pump defective
B. Replace.
C. Incorrectly wired
C. Recheck wiring.
2.
Hot surface
A.No power to heater
A.Check circuit breakers and power source.
igniter does
B. Heater not grounded correctly
B. Check ground wire connection.
not glow
C. Broken or faulty hot surface igniter
C. Replace hot surface igniter.
D. Faulty ignition control
D. Replace ignition control.
3.
Flame roll-out
A.Blocked flue
A.Remove blockage.
on start-up
B. Pilot out of position (delayed ignition)
B. Correct pilot position.
C. Blocked heat exchanger
C. Clean and correct as necessary.
D. Refractory blanket out of place
D. Correct or replace blanket as necessary.
E. Altered draft hood
E. Install factory-provided draft hood.
4.
Spillage at
A. Cold chimney
A. Allow heater to operate 5 minutes to create draft action.
draft hood
B. Vent pipe pitches down to chimney
B. Reinstall vent pipe to pitch up from heater to chimney.
C. Blocked chimney
C. Remove blockage.
D. Draft hood altered
D. Install factory-provided draft hood.
E. Prefabricated chimney with incorrect cap
E. Install U.L. listed vent cap.
5.
Flame has
A. Low primary air
A. Correct manifold pressure according to rating plate. Correct
lazy yellow tip
orifice size if necessary (see parts list). Clean burner ports if
dirty.
6.
Not enough heat
A. Inadequate gas supply
A. Gas meter too small. Gas line from meter to heater too small.
B. Low manifold gas pressure
B. Gas pressure on heater manifold, should be adjusted to
4.0"W.C. for natural gas, 9.0"W.C. for propane.
C. Heater size inadequate
C. Replace with heater of higher input.
7.
Heater pounding
A.Inadequate water flow
A.Check temperature rise between inlet and outlet heater
or knocking
through heater
piping. See section 7.6 for recommended range of
temperature rise. If temperature rise is above the maximum
recommended, increase pipe size or pump capacity or
locate obstruction. Check for closed valve in system.
8.
Heater condensing A.Low water temperature
A.Flue product moisture will condense at the start-up until the
heater water temperature reaches the normal operating
conditions.
9.
Pressure relief
A. Restriction in water flow system
A. Check for proper operation of all valves, bypass valve and
valve opens
at or downstream of heater.
any equipment between pool and heater outlet.
10.
Igniter glows
A.Gas valve not at “on” position
A.Turn knob to “on” position.
but main burners
B. Hi-limit switches failed
B. Investigate reason for overheating and replace hi-limit switch
will not come on
as necessary .
C. Pressure switch failed or out of
C. Adjust pressure switch (see Section 7.5) or replace as
adjustment
necessary.
D. Fusible link failed
D. Investigate reason for flame rollout and replace fusible link
as necessary .
E. Gas valve failed
E. Check and replace gas valve as necessary.
F. Broken wire in thermostat circuit
F. Check continuity through thermostat circuit with wires
or defective thermostat
disconnected.
G. Heater wired incorrectly
G. Check heater wiring against wiring diagram on page 18,
correct as necessary.
11.
Heater short
A. Low water flow through heater
A. Increase size of pump or increase piping size.
cycles
B. Failing hi-limit switch
B. Check High limit switches and replace as necessary.
NOTE
: Keep this manual in a safe place for future
reference by you and your professional technician
when inspecting and servicing the heater.
SECTION 9.
Troubleshooting
9.1 General Heater Troubleshooting
The following table lists some of the more
common problems, causes and solutions encountered
when running the heater. Most problems occur when
the heater is being started for the first time after
installation or at Spring start-up. Careful installation
and maintenance will help ensure years of trouble free
use from your Lite2 pool heater.
