4.17 CARE AND CLEANING _____________________________________________________
Wash the mower and implements after each use. Keep the
equipment clean.
1. Use compressed air to clean engine and radiator fins. A
special blow gun is available through Jacobsen Dealer.
2. Use only fresh water for cleaning your equipment.
3. Do not spray water di rectly at the i nstrument p anel,
ignition s witch, c ontroller, any oth er el ectrical
components, bearing housings, or seals.
4. Clean all plastic or rubber trim with a mild s oap
solution or us e c ommercially av ailable vinyl/rubber
cleaners.
5. To mai ntain the origi nal high lus ter of the fiberglass,
periodically wax with a good gr ade of O ne-Step
cleaner wax.
Repair damaged metal surfaces and use Jacobsen touch-up
paint. Wax the equipment for maximum paint protection.
4.18 RADIATOR _______________________________________________________________
Check coolant l evel da ily. Radi ator should be f ull and
recovery bottle should be up to the
cold
mark.
Drain and refill annually. Remove the radiator cap, open the
engine block drain and the radiator drain. Empty and c lean
the recovery bottle.
Mix c lean water with ethy lene glycol bas ed anti -freeze for
the c oldest ambi ent temperatur e. Read and fol low the
instructions on the anti-freeze container and engine manual.
Keep radiator ai r passages clean. Use compressed air (30
psi maximum) to clean the fins.
Check and tighten the fan belt. Replace clamps and hoses
every two years.
If you have to add coolant more than onc e a month, or add
more than one quart at a ti me, have a authorized Jacobsen
Dealer check the cooling system.
NOTICE
Do not wash any portion of the equipment while it is hot.
Do not use high pressure spray or steam. Use cold water
and automotive cleaners.
NOTICE
Use of salt water or affluent water has been known to
encourage rust and c orrosion of me tal parts resulting
in premature d eterioration or fa ilure. D amage o f th is
nature is not covered by the factory warranty.
CAUTION
Clean gr ass and d ebris fr om cu tting uni ts, dr ives,
muffler, and engine to prevent fires.
WARNING
NEVER
use y our hands to clean c utting units. Us e a
brush to remove grass clippings from blades. Blades are
extremely sharp and can cause serious injuries.

WARNING
To prevent serious bodily injury from hot coolant or steam
blow-out, never attempt to remove the radiator cap while
the engine is running. Stop the engine and wai t until it is
cool. Ev en then, us e ex treme c are when remov ing the
cap.
CAUTION
Do not pou r c old wat er int o a ho t r adiator. Do no t
operate en gine wi thout a p roper c oolant mi xture.
Install cap and tighten securely.
