CUTTING HEIGHT
Depending upon thetype of
cut desired, the mower can
be used intwo different
ways:
1. To obtain
acut
which follows
the contour of the
ground, the mower should beoperated with the rear
rollers onthe ground
and the
lift system lowered
enough to permit
the mower to float.
NOTE
It isvery important
to permit the mower to float.
If the lift
system islowered too far,
the mower
can't move independently
from thetractor,
it
could
result
in premature
roller
wear
and
damage tothe mower
deck.
To adjust the cutting height,
raise the mower to
transport position and set
the rearrollers to the
desired cutting
height using the cutting
height
control lever(SeeFigs. 7 & 11).

2. To obtain
alevel
cut which doesn't
follow
small
changes in ground
contour,
the mower should be
suspended from thetractor
lift system with therear
rollers set in the
1.1/2"
cutting position to act as anti-
scalp rollers (See Fig.
12). If the tractor has a manual
lift, set the mower atthe desired cutting
height using
the implement lift handle perthe Instructions on
Page
5. If the tractor has a hydraulic lift,
set the
cutting height by using the position
control as
follows: (See Fig. 3).
a. Raise mowerto transport position.
b. LoosenLock Bar.
c. Turn position control
knobclockwise to lowest
position.
d. Lowermowerto desired cutting height.
e. Turn position control knob counterclockwise until
lift is contacted (Resistanceis felt).
f. Tighten lock barfinger tight, do not use a wrench.
NOTE
No matter which type of
cut Is desired, the
mower must
be properly
leveled.
See
maintenance section Instructions.
ENGINE SPEED
Make sure electric
clutch is disengaged before starting
engine. For all cutting conditions, operate theengine at
full throttle to maintain
sufficient
blade speed.
In the
interest of safety,
have your
tractor
checked
yearly and make sure the
full throttle,
no load,
"on
governor" engine speed Isnot
in excess of
maximum
3400 rpm at full throttle.
NOTE1
The ANSI-Outdoor
Power
Equipment
Institute
Safety Standards aresubject
to continuing
review
and improvement.
If maximum permissible
blade
tip speeds arechanged,
it will becomenecessary to
change theengine speed listed.
Your Authorized
Service Station will be kept informed of changes, If
such occur, and will beable to adjust your machine
to keep it up to datewith themost
modern safety
standards on cutter
blade speeds.
NOTE2
Engine speeds will vary, evenwith the best ofgover-
nors, and safe practice isto setengines 100to 200
rpm under the maximum acceptable rates.
NOTE3
The ANSI-OPEl
Safety Standards require thedis-
charge chute extension aspackaged with this mow-
er to be bolted securely
inplace for
proper, safe
operation.
See
UNPACKING
AND
SET-UP
INSTRUCTIONS.
TRACTOR GROUND SPEED
Gear Drive Tractors
-
For light
to medium cutting,
operate
the tractor
in 2nd or 3rd gear.
Shift
the
transmission
into low gear
for heavy cutting.
The
mower will not cut clean oreven if
the forward speedof
the tractor
istoo fast.
Hydrostatic Driven Tractors
-
For all cutting conditions,
move the control
pedal forward
and down
until the
tractor groundspeed matches
the cutting
conditions,
that is, when the mower
is making
aclean,
level cut.
The mower
will not cut clean or even if
the forward
speed of the tractor
istoo fast.
