3.2 Placement
The P6NS PPro SCSI Motherboard is designed with Intel 82440FX PCIset
chipset which is developed by INTEL Corpora tion to fully support Pentium Pro
Processor PCI/ISA system. The Intel 82440FX PCIset chipset provides increa sed
integra tion a nd improved performa nce designs. The chipset provides a n
integra ted IDE controller with two high performa nce IDE interfa ces for up to four
IDE devices (ha rd devices, CD-ROM device, etc). The Ada ptec (AHA-2940UW)
Ultra / Ultra Wide SCSI built in this SCSI motherboa rd provides not only the
powerful connectivity but a lso softwa re driver supported by origina l Ada ptec.
The SMC 37C669 Super I/O controller provides the sta nda rd PC I/O function:
floppy interfa ce, two 16 Byte FIFO seria l ports a nd EPP/ECP ca pa ble pa ra llel
port. The
P6NS la yout is shown in next pa ge for user's reference. Care must be
taken when inserting memory modules, inserting Pentium Pro processor CPU or
even plugging PCI ca rd into a ssocia ted slots to a void da ma ging a ny circuits or
sockets on boa rd. A right fa n a nd hea tsink fa n is required when insta lling Pentium
Pro processor due to possible overhea t.
The P6NS supports minimum of 8MB of System Memory a nd ma ximum of
512MB while L2 Ca che a nd ca che controller included in Pentium Pro Processor .
The P6NS
supports sta nda rd Fa st Pa ge, EDO (Extended Da ta Out or Hyper Pa ge
Mode) or Burst EDO DRAM. The P6NS provides four 72-pins SIMM sites for
memory expa nsion. The socket support 1M x 32(4MB), 2M x 32(8MB), 4M x
32(16MB), 8M x 32(32MB) 16MB x 32(64MB), a nd 32MB x 32(128MB) single -
sided or double-sided memory modules. The memory timing requires 70 nS Fa st
