Print Head Pulse Width Adjustment
When a print head solenoid is on, the piston pulls away from the membrane, ink pressure
moves the membrane away from the orifice, and ink is expelled through the orifice to form
a dot. When the solenoid turns off, the piston moves forward which pushes the membrane
forward to seal the orifice. Solenoid pulse width controls the amount of time that the sole-
noid is on. If printed
dots are over- or under-sized
, pulse width adjustment may be
required.
1. Check print head pressure per procedure. Adjust if necessary and recheck print quality.
2. Open pulse width adjustment access cover at the rear of the print head housing.
3. Adjust pulse widths by turning potentiometers as required:
Clockwise: Increase pulse width
Counter-clockwise: Decrease pulse width
NOTE:
On an 18-dot print head, the directions are opposite.
4. Check print quality; repeat step 3 as required. If dot size cannot be adjusted for accept-
able print quality, a pre-load adjustment may be required.
The arrangement of orifices in the front plate controls character size. Dot sizes can be
adjusted individually for each print head with potentiometers located on the back plate.
