4. Make sure wheelchair is occupied and on a level surface before reclining.
5. Engage the wheel locks. Refer to Using Patient Operated Wheel Locks on page 53.
6. Inform the occupant of the wheelchair that the wheelchair is about to be reclined.

s hands and body are clear of all pinch points
8. Stand behind the wheelchair and grasp both handles firmly.
9. Squeeze release handles.
10. Slowly, pull back on the back assembly while squeezing the release handles.
11. When the back reaches the desired angle, slowly let go of the release handles.
12. To return the back to the full upright position, reverse the STEPS 8-11 keeping in mind
proper body mechanics.
