Using Serial Communications on the Terminals

The terminals have a serial port to transfer data to and from another device via RS-232
serial communications. You can order the T2420 with a modem that you can use to
connect the terminal over a phone line. Before you can use the serial port, you need to
connect and configure the terminal. The next sections cover these topics:

Identifying the COM Ports

Communications ports, also called COM ports, are locations from which data can be
passed into and out of the terminal. This illustration identifies the COM ports on the
T2420 and the T2425. For help on the COM1 pin assignments, see “Pin Assignments for
COM1” in Appendix A.
