Server Board SE7500WV2
Populating the PCI-X Expansion
Slots
When installing PCI-X and/or PCI cards in the SE7500WV2 server board, special care must be taken to maintain optimal
I/O performance.

Instructions for the Intel Server Chassis SR1300
:
−
PCI-X Bus B
:
The PCI-X specification supports a maximum of one device on a bus operating at 133-MHz.
PCI-X Bus B on both the ATA-100 RAID version and the SCSI version of the SE7500WV2 includes a single
PCI-X expansion slot and a PCI-X 64-bit\133-MHz network interface controller. PCI-X Bus B operates at the
maximum throughput when either the network adapter is enabled and no add-in cards are installed in the
expansion slot, or the network adapter is disabled and a single PCI-X 64-bit\133-MHz card installed. In all other
cases, the operating characteristics of PCI-X Bus B are defined primarily by the riser card which operates at a
maximum of 64-bits\100-MHz and secondarily by the type and speed of the installed add in PCI or PCI-X card.
−
PCI-X Bus C
:
The operating characteristics of PCI-X Bus C vary greatly depending upon whether the ATA-100
RAID version or the SCSI version of the SE7500WV2 is installed in the SR1300 chassis. The SCSI controller
on the SCSI version of the board is a 64-bit\66-MHz PCI device, so when the SCSI controller is enabled the bus
operates as a standard 64-bit\66-MHz bus. When the SCSI controller is disabled, the operating characteristics
of the bus are defined primarily by the riser card, which operates at a maximum of 64-bits\100-MHz, and
secondarily by the type and speed of the installed add in PCI or PCI-X card.

Instructions for the Intel Server Chassis SR2300
:
−
PCI-X Bus B:
The SR2300 utilizes a 3-slot PCI-X expansion riser for each bus. Due to limitations imposed by
the riser card, PCI-X Bus B operates at a 64-bit\100MHz throughput maximum. The PCI-X specification
supports up to two devices on a bus operating at 100-MHz, and up to four devices at 66-MHz. The operating
characteristics of PCI-X Bus B are defined by the number, type and operating speed of the PCI or PCI-X card(s)
installed.
−
PCI-X Bus C:
The SR2300 supports only the SCSI version of the SE7500WV2, when the SCSI controller is
enabled the bus operates as a standard 64-bit\66-MHz bus. When the SCSI controller is disabled the operating
characteristics of the bus are defined primarily by the riser card which operates at a maximum of 64-bits\100-
MHz and secondarily by the number, type and speed of the installed add in PCI or PCI-X card(s).
