Configuring Modules
Normally you will not have to make any changes to the optional modules
because they are designed to automatically configure themselves for the
attached device. The controls located on the modules will allow you to make
limited changes to solve connectivity issues. For complete control over the
Fiber and Ethernet Modules you will need to purchase the optional
Management Module.
Ethernet Module
The crossover button on the Ethernet Module switches the module’s
Ethernet port from MDI-X to MDI. This allows connections to different
devices without the need for a crossover cable. Follow these guidelines:
• Use the MDI setting to connect the module to a hub or switch.
• Use the MDI-X setting to connect the module to a PC.
Fiber Module
The Fiber Module has two duplex settings: full duplex and half duplex. Use
the Change Duplex button to set the module to half duplex when connecting
to a device that can’t operate at full duplex.
The Fiber Module allows connections over longer distances than is possible
with UTP cable. When connecting fiber, follow these guidelines:
• Use 62.5/125µ multimode fiber optic cable with an SC-type connector.
• In half-duplex mode, the maximum distance between devices is 160m.
• In full-duplex mode, the maximum distance between devices is 2km.
Module B LEDs
The Module B LED is located to the right of the Module A LEDs. This LED
indicates if a Management Module is installed in the hub and the status of
the module. For more information about the Management Module, refer to
the Management Module Users Guide.
