segment front-panel LED bar readout. Refer back to Page 13
for additional info on this. Metering with higher resolution is
displayed on the
Graphs & Metering
Web interface page and is
covered under that discussion.
Signal Metrics
Directly under the
prominent frequency
notation near the top
of the page, you’ll find
a series of off-air sig-
nal quality readouts.
With the exception of
Pilot
, which indicates
only a
Locked
or an
Unlocked
condition, each
of the other four quality notations is ac-
companied by a scrolling 30-second graph-
ical history, plus low and high values over
the same period.
Here’s a rundown of the parameters shown:
RSSI
is received
signal carrier strength in dBuV at the antenna input;
RF SNR
is
a generalized signal/noise figure for the off-air RF signal, not
an audio SNR measurement;
Multipath
is a relative readout of
multipath (direct/reflected) distortion effects; and
Blend
indi-
cates the degree to which the stereo program is ‘blended’ to
mono for noise abatement, and is active only when that func-
tion is enabled under the
Tuner
menu. Signal quality measure-
ments prove useful when setting-up a receive antenna.
Alarms
The SOFIA 565 offers alarm indications for various signal-
related issues. Alarm status is displayed on the front panel, be-
low the signal metrics readout here on the
Now Playing
Webpage, and on the
Alarms
Webpage where the alarm trigger
and reset parameters are set. Alarm specifics and setup proce-
dures begin on Page 22.
In addition to the alarm status indicators, the individual alarms
can be assigned to rear-panel GPO terminals to tie into remote
control systems, light accessory indicators, or sound a klaxon.
GPO programming is explained on Page 26.
Alarms can also send email or SMS/text messages to specific
personnel. Instructions for setting this up begin on Page 31.
Audio Program
Metadata
The SOFIA 565 displays RDS/RBDS metadata associated with
the audio program being monitored. All the major data fields
are shown on the
RDS Info
page, but here on
Now Playing
you
can see
PI-Call:
(PI code and call letters), the static or scrolling
PS:
(Program Service) field and
RT:
(RadioText) messaging.
Tuning
the Radio
The SOFIA 565 is easily tuned from the front panel
Tuner
menu,
or from the
Tuner
section of the
Now Playing
Webpage. Using
the Web interface you can either directly overtype an FM fre-
quency into the box to the right of
Frequency (MHz):
, or you can
grab the slider knob and drag it back and forth. Or click on the
slider knob and, once it’s highlighted, use your keyboard arrow
