ensure that when using a “Y” energy absorbing lanyard, that when one leg /
lanyard is not attached to the structure it must not be clipped back into the user's
harness. Ideally, both ends should stay attached to the structure at all times, or
when one leg / lanyard is not in use it is attached to the other leg that is attached.

ensure that if the lanyard is to be used within a fall arrest system the free space required
below is verified at the workplace before each occasion of use, so that in the case of a fall,
there will be no collision with the ground or other obstacle in the fall path
