2.4.4.1 Ethernet Connection

The IOWA-GX is connected to an external LAN through an RJ-45 port on the back panel.

The LAN port is connected to a 10/100Mbps PCI Realtek RTL8100C Ethernet controller,

which is then interfaced to the CPU through the PCI bus.

Figure 2-8: Ethernet Controller

Some RTL8100C Ethernet controller features include the following.

Integrates Fast Ethernet MAC, physical chip, and transceiver into one chip

10Mbps and 100Mbps operation

Supports 10Mbps and 100Mbps N-way auto-negotiation

Supports 25MHz crystal or 25MHz OSC as the internal clock source

Supports ACPI power management

Provides PCI bus master data transfer

Provides PCI memory space or I/O space mapped data transfer

Supports PCI clock speed of 16.75MHz-40MHz

Supports Wake-on-LAN and remote wake-up (AMD Magic Packet
