FunctIon
The sanitizing, anti-inflammation and anti-bacteria
power of ozone in nature has been clinically
proven.
The system makes it possible to combine the pleas-
ure of the whirlpool with a therapeutic action that
benefits the skin and the joints.
Let’s see why from a more technical point of view:
Properties of Ozone
The effectiveness of whirlpool systems can be
enhanced through the use of an electronic device
(installed exclusively in the factory) which enriches
the water/air mixture that comes out of the deliv-
ery nozzles with ozone. This device and its use in
conjunction with the whirlpool system have been
tested in accordance with European standards with
the CE mark.
Trivia
Ozone as a molecule
Ozone is an allotropic form of oxygen; at ambient
temperature it is a colourless gas with a charac-
teristic acrid, pungent odour which gives it its
name (from the Greek ozo = gives off odour).
Ozone in nature
The functions of ozone in nature are not yet
fully understood, but what is sure is that it plays
a major role in the ecological balance of the
Earth. It is a natural gaseous component of the
atmosphere, and it is present in the various lay-
ers in different concentrations. It forms in the
atmosphere at an altitude of 30 km through the
so-called Chapman effect as a result of the effect
of ultra-violet rays on oxygen:
O2 + hv -> O + O
O + O2 -> O3
O3 + hv -> O2 + O
O + O3 -> O2 + O2
The Urey effect instead is a process that allows
constant formation of ozone in the while both
the ozone and the oxygen absorb the solar
ultraviolet rays, thus forming a mechanism that
neutralizes the ultraviolet solar rays. Therefore,
thanks to its ability to absorb ultraviolet rays,
ozone is indispensable for life on Earth.
Industrial use of ozone
Industrial applications of ozone are based mainly
on the strong disinfectant and cleansing prop-
erties that this gas possesses. Ozone, thanks to
its high oxidizing power, is able to break down
macromolecular structures which are at the root
of survival of bacteria cells, funguses, protozoan
and viruses. This powerful and wide-ranging
disinfectant action is used for water purifica-
tion as well as in the treatment of waste water.
Many studies have also shown that ozone is
more effective than chlorine in eliminating
certain viruses which flourish in potable water.
For this reason it should come as no surprise if
ozone is also widely used in the sanitization of
swimming pools, leading to a savings of about
80% in chlorine, a reduction in water re-use and
eliminating the need for intervention by staff as
the system is automated. Ozone treatment of
swimming pools also makes the water clearer
(since it reduces the concentration of trialom-
ethanes) and easier to filter (since large organic
molecules are broken down).
Therapeutic uses of ozone
The use of ozone in medicine is dictated by two
general considerations, one based on the fact
that ozone has both direct and indirect effects
on metabolism and the other on the biological
effects that it has.
