poINtS:
• Check the oven often when
heating food in a plastic or paper
container, as it may catch fire.
• Remove any seals that contain
metal wire from paper and
plastic bags before placing them
in the oven.
• If you see any smoke, switch off
or unplug the appliance. Keep
the door closed to stifle any
flames.
• Do not use the oven for storage
purposes. Do not leave any paper
products, cutlery or food inside
the oven when it is not in use.
When you heat beverages in
microwave ovens, it can cause
delayed eruptive boiling. You
should therefore be extremely
careful when handling the
container. Do not fry food in the
oven. Hot oil can damage oven
parts and cutlery and can also
cause burns on your skin.
Eggs in their shells and whole
hard-boiled eggs should not be
heated in microwave ovens, as
they can explode, even after
heating has ended.
Perforate any food that has a
thick skin, for example, pota-
toes, whole squashes, apples
and chestnuts, before cooking
them.
The contents of feeding bottles
and baby food jars must be
stirred or shaken, and the tem-
perature must be checked
before serving to avoid burns.
Cutlery can become hot because
of the heat that is transferred
from the heated food. You may
need to use pot holders to
handle the cutlery. Only use
cutlery and accessories that are
suitable for use in microwave
ovens.
The oven must be cleaned
regularly to remove any food
deposits. If the oven is not kept
clean, it can cause wear and tear
on the surfaces, which can
shorten the lifespan of the oven
and may result in a hazardous
situation.
