Product features
Key product features for this device include the following:
v Redundant and hot-swappable SFP, SFP+, SFP28, QSFP+, and QSFP28 transceivers; port, extension,
control processor (CP) and core routing (CR) blades; power supply assemblies, fan assemblies, and
WWN cards that enable a high availability platform and allow nondisruptive software upgrades for
mission-critical SAN applications.
v Support for the following features when using the FC32-64 blade:
– Up to 16 QSFP ports on each FC32-64 port blade that provide 4x32 Gbps, 4x16 Gbps, 4x10 GbE,
4x25 GbE, or 40 GbE operation. Port speeds for 4x32 Gbps transceivers can auto negotiate between
4x32 Gbps and 4x16 Gbps. Port speeds for 4x16 Gbps transceivers can auto negotiate between 4x16,
4x8, and 4x4 Gbps.
– FlexPort technology that allows you to configure each of the 16 QSFP ports on a blade for FC
operation or Ethernet operation for FCoE connections. For details on supported transceivers and
speeds, refer to “Supported transceivers and cables” on page 65.
– Up to four blades and all FC transceivers installed, up to 256 32-Gbps external ports are possible in
a single chassis, enabling high density SAN configurations with reduced footprint.
– Trunking technology that allows groups up to eight ports to create high-performance 256-Gbps ISL
trunks between switches using 32-Gbps ports.
v Support for the following features when using the FC32-48 blade:
– Up to 192 32-Gbps external ports are possible in a single chassis, enabling high density SAN
configurations with reduced footprint.
– Support for 48 Fibre Channel ports on each FC32-48 port blade that provide 32 Gbps, 16 Gbps, 10
Gbps, and 8 Gbps. The 10-Gbps transceivers can be used for any port on the FC32-48 port blades.
Note that 10 Gbps transceivers on the FC32-48 and SX6 blade are not interchangeable. For details on
supported transceivers and speeds, refer to “Supported transceivers and cables” on page 65.
– Trunking technology groups up to eight ports to create high-performance 256-Gbps ISL trunks
between switches using 32-Gbps ports.
v Support for 16 Fibre Channel ports supporting 4, 8, 16, and 32 Gbps; 16 GbE ports supporting 1 or 10
Gbps; and two GbE ports supporting 40 Gbps on SX6 extension blades. Trunking technology groups up
to eight ports to create high performance 256-Gbps ISL trunks between switches using 32-Gbps ports.
Note that 10 Gbps transceivers on the FC32-48 and SX6 blade are not interchangeable. For details on
supported transceivers and speeds, refer to “Supported transceivers and cables” on page 65.
v The SX6 extension blades perform as extension platforms to support Fibre Channel (FC) and FICON
data flows and IP-based storage data flows over an IP WAN.

Support for FC quad SFP+ (QSFP+), and QSFP28 ports supporting 4x16 Gbps and 4x32 Gbps on core
CR blades. Up to nine chassis in a full-mesh topology and 12 chassis in a core-to-edge topology can be
connected using these Fibre Channel ports for inter-chassis links (ICLs).
