IBM Power 750 and 760 Technical Overview and Introduction

A device capable of reading a DVD must be in the system or attached to the system. It must 
be available to perform operating system installation, maintenance, problem determination, 
and service actions such as maintaining system firmware and I/O microcode at their latest 
levels. Alternatively for AIX, a network with an AIX NIM server configured to perform these 
functions can be used. For IBM i, its network installation capability can be used to avoid 
multiple DVDs on a server.

The Power 750 and the Power 760 can support one DVD drive in the system unit. Other DVD 
drives can be attached externally to the system unit.

System boot and load source is supported using HDDs or SSDs located in the system unit, 
located in an I/O drawer such as an FC EDR1 an EXP30 Ultra SSD I/O Drawer, FC 5887 
EXP24S drawer, FC 5886 EXP12S drawer, an FC 5802 12X I/O drawer, or a PCIe RAID and 
SSD SAS Adapter. For AIX or VIOS boot drives, a network attached using LAN adapters can 
also be used. System boot and load source can also be done from a SAN.
