IBM Enhanced Diagnostics program

The IBM Enhanced Diagnostics program is available on:

The Product Recovery CD that comes with computers that have
preinstalled software.

The Device Driver and IBM Enhanced Diagnostics CD that comes with
computers that do not have preinstalled software.

The IBM Enhanced Diagnostics Diskette (if you have created one).

You can create an IBM Enhanced Diagnostics Diskette from:

The Product Recovery CD.

The Device Driver and IBM Enhanced Diagnostics CD.

The World Wide Web (http://www.ibm.com/pc/support) by
downloading the diskette image.

These diagnostic programs run independently of the operating system and
will help isolate your computer hardware from software that was
preinstalled (or that you have installed) on your hard disk. Use the IBM
Enhanced Diagnostics to diagnose and isolate hardware problems.

To start the IBM Enhanced Diagnostics program from the Product Recovery
CD, or the Device Driver and IBM Enhanced Diagnostics CD, you might need
to change the primary startup sequence.

To use the CD-ROM drive as the First Startup Device, do the following:

1. Shut down the operating system and turn off your computer.

2. Turn on your computer.

3. When you see

Press F1 For Configuration/Setup

, press the F1 key.

4. When the Configuration/Setup Utility program menu appears, select

Start Options

.

5. Select Startup Sequence and press Enter.

6. Under Primary Startup Sequence, select First Startup Device.

7. Note the device currently indicated as the First Startup Device. You

must restore this setting when you finish running diagnostics.

8. Change the First Startup Device to CD-ROM.

9. Press Esc two times to return to the Configuration/Setup Utility

program menu.

10. Select Save Settings.

11. Turn off the computer.
