IBM System p5 550 and 550Q Technical Overview and Introduction
– Ensure that the cables at the rear of the system or expansion unit do not catch or bind
as you pull the unit out from the rack.
– When the rails are fully extended, the rail safety latches lock into place. This action
prevents the system or expansion unit from being pulled out too far.
The IBM Systems Hardware Information Center is available for more information or to view
available video-clips that describe several of the maintenance repair-action procedures.
2.15.4 Cable-management arm
The p5-550 and p5-550Q rack-mounted models are shipped with a cable-management arm
to route all the cables through the hooks along the cable arm and to secure them with the
straps that are provided. The cable-management arm simplifies the cables management in
case of a service action that requires you to pull out the rack-mounted system from the rack.
2.15.5 Operator control panel
The service processor provides an interface to the control panel that is used to display server
status and diagnostic information. Figure 2-20 shows the operator control panel physical
details and buttons.

Note: For servers that are managed by the HMC, use it to perform control panel functions.
