13. If you moved the drive cage out of the way in step 5, push the drive cage
outward and press in on the drive-cage release tab. Rotate the cage part-way
into the computer, reconnect any power cables you disconnected from the
drives, and rotate the cage the rest of the way back into the computer.
14. If you removed the air baffle for the optional second microprocessor in step 6,
replace the air baffle (see step 13 on page 121).
15. Replace the support bracket (see “Removing the support bracket” on page 83).
16. Replace the side cover (see “Removing the side cover” on page 81).
17. Reconnect the external cables and power cords. Turn on the attached devices,
and turn on the computer.
Removing the battery
To remove the battery, complete the following steps:
1. Read the safety information that begins on page vii and “Installation guidelines”
on page 79.
2. Turn off the computer and all attached devices. Disconnect all external cables
and power cords; then, remove the computer cover and the support bracket
(see “Removing the side cover” on page 81 and “Removing the support bracket”
on page 83).
3. Remove the battery:
a. Use a fingernail to press the top of the battery clip away from the battery
(see Figure 22). The battery pops up when released.
b. Use your thumb and index finger to lift the battery from the socket.
Replacing the battery
Important: In computers containing the optional microprocessor board, the battery
must be replaced by a trained service technician who is familiar with IBM products.
The following notes describe information that you must consider when replacing the
battery in the computer:

When replacing the battery, you must replace it with a lithium battery of the same
type from the same manufacturer.
v
To order replacement batteries, call 1-800-426-7378 within the United States, and
1-800-465-7999 or 1-800-465-6666 within Canada. Outside the U.S. and
Canada, call your IBM marketing representative or authorized reseller.
v After you replace the battery, you must reconfigure the system and reset the
system date and time.
v
To avoid possible danger, read and follow the following safety statement.
