Attention: When you handle static-sensitive devices, take precautions to
avoid damage from static electricity. For details about handling these devices,
see “Handling static-sensitive devices” on page 14.
4. If you are installing a microprocessor in the microprocessor 2 socket, first
install a VRM in the microprocessor 2 VRM slot (J-25) and remove the
protective cover, if supplied, from the microprocessor 2 socket.
5. Install the microprocessor:
a. Touch the static-protective package that contains the new microprocessor
to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove the
microprocessor from the package.

b. Rotate the locking lever on the microprocessor socket from its closed and
locked position until it stops or clicks in the fully open position
(approximately 135° angle).
Note: The microprocessor-release lever is on the side of the socket that
faces the rear of the server.
Attention:
1) To avoid bending the pins on the microprocessor, do not use excessive
force when pressing it into the socket.
2) Make sure the microprocessor is correctly positioned and aligned
before closing the microprocessor-release lever.

c. Position the microprocessor over the microprocessor socket; then, carefully
press the microprocessor into the socket.
6. Close the microprocessor-release lever to secure the microprocessor.
