Chapter 4. Using the IBM 2212 Bootstrap Menus

The IBM 2212 bootstrap tests the IBM 2212 system card and hard file/compact
flash components. The IBM 2212 bootstrap menus are used to determine the cause
of any problem detected during the tests, and bring the IBM 2212 back to an
operational state.

Accessing the Bootstrap Menu requires that a console be directly attached to the
service port or that a remote console be running ASCII terminal emulation (the
bootstrap menus do not support SLIP), and the boot process be stopped at a
specific point. To access the Bootstrap Menus:

1. Attach a console to the service port as described in “Attaching an ASCII

Terminal” on page 3-3.

2. Force a reboot by unplugging and plugging the power cord, or by typing reload

at the OPCON (

) prompt or reboot at the

SVC>

prompt.

3. The IBM 2212 will begin its boot process. When the message

is displayed, press Ctrl-C on the terminal keyboard to stop

the boot process. The Bootstrap Menu should appear. If the Bootstrap Menu
does not appear:

a. Make sure your console is connected to the serial port on the IBM 2212.

b. Unplug and plug the power cord again.

Note: Make sure the screen size for your terminal emulation software is set to 80

columns by 24 rows.

From the Bootstrap Main Menu (as shown in Figure 4-1 and Figure 4-2 on

page 4-2), you can select from several services. To make your selection, type the

|

number of your choice. The following sections explain these services and provide

|

instructions for using the associated panels:
