Installing
and
removing
replaceable
units
This
chapter
provides
instructions
for
replacing
units
on
the
blade
server.
Replaceable
units
are
components,
such
as
memory
modules,
and
I/O
expansion
cards.
Some
removal
instructions
are
provided
in
case
you
need
to
replace
one
replaceable
with
another.
You
can
replace
the
following
items:

Battery
v
Front
bezel
assembly
(control
panel)
v
Blade
server
cover
v
Impedance
air
baffles
v
DIMM
fillers
v
System
board
You
can
add
or
remove
the
following
optional
items:

Cisco
4X
Infiniband

memory
modules

Note:
If
you
wish
to
install
the
InfiniBand
4X
DDR
Expansion
Card
(CFFh)
you
must
install
Red
Hat
Enterprise
Linux
5.2
or
higher.
Installation
guidelines
Before
you
begin,
read
the
following:
v
Read
the
safety
information
beginning
on
page
vii
and
the
guidelines
in
“Handling
static-sensitive
devices”
on
page
30.
This
information
will
help
you
work
safely
with
the
blade
server
and
components.
v
You
do
not
have
to
turn
off
the
blade
server
or
disconnect
the
BladeCenter
unit
from
power
to
install
or
replace
any
of
the
hot-swappable
modules
on
the
rear
of
the
BladeCenter
unit.
v
Before
you
remove
a
hot-swappable
blade
server
from
the
BladeCenter
unit,
you
must
shut
down
the
operating
system
on
it
by
typing
the
shutdown
-h
now
command
or
choosing
the
shut
down
option
from
your
GUI.

the
blade
server”
on
page
4
for
details.
You
do
not
have
to
shut
down
the
BladeCenter
unit
itself.
v
Blue
on
a
component
indicates
touch
points,
where
you
can
grip
the
component
to
remove
it
from
or
install
it
in
the
blade
server
or
BladeCenter
unit,
open
or
close
a
latch,
and
so
on.
v
Orange
on
a
component
or
an
orange
label
on
or
near
a
component
indicates
that
the
component
can
be
hot-swapped.
You
can
remove
or
install
the
component
while
the
blade
server
or
BladeCenter
unit
is
running
providing
the
blade
server
or
BladeCenter
unit
and
operating
system
support
the
hot-swappable
capability.
Orange
can
also
indicate
touch
points
on
hot-swappable
components.
See
the
instructions
for
removing
or
installing
a
specific
hot-swappable
component
for
any
additional
procedures
that
you
might
have
to
perform
before
you
remove
or
install
the
component.
